We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Transport & Development Planner to join our Highways and Transportation Division. Through our rotational graduate programme, you’ll gain hands-on experience across multiple teams, contributing to high-profile projects that directly influence the lives of Kent’s residents, communities and businesses.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Help to shape developments, plans and strategies to deliver new highways and transport infrastructure and services across Kent.
  • Undertake projects to review and improve policies and processes in transport and development planning in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Assess planning applications for new developments and provide recommendations to local planning authorities.
  • Rotate across key service areas, gaining a view of how transport planning supports the Council’s strategic goals.
  • Represent the Highway Authority, building your confidence and communication skills in a professional setting.
  • Develop your expertise through structured project work, while working toward the Associate Project Manager apprenticeship.

About You

  • We’re looking for ambitious, proactive graduates who are ready to lead and learn. You’ll need:
  • A 2:2 Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Environment, Geography or a related discipline. Other degrees will be considered according to their relevance.
  • GCSE Grade A-C (4-9 or equivalent) in English language
  • GCSE Grade A-C (4-9 or equivalent) in Mathematics.
  • A proven ability to lead seminars, projects, or group discussions in an academic or work setting.
  • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in teams and managing deadlines without compromising quality.
  • A solid understanding of local government, transport policy, and the unique transport challenges facing Kent.
  • Strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and proficiency in tools like MS Excel, Word, and Project.
  • A passion for public service and a desire to make a difference in your community.
  • Commitment to study for an Associate Project Manager apprenticeship (Level 4).
